WHAT:
Autism Speaks 2ND Annual Tennessee Walk Now for Autism is a safe and fun day for families who are affected with autism. The day includes a 1 to 2 mile walk and Community Resource Fair with educational sources, therapists, schools, recreational organizations and creative child-friendly activities, a true “one-stop-shop” for families affected by autism.

Thousands of walkers – including individuals with autism, their families and friends - will join together to raise much-needed funds for critical scientific research and to increase awareness about a growing health crisis that now affects 1 in every 150 children at the 2nd Annual Tennessee Walk Now for Autism on Saturday, October 17, 2009 at Nashville Superspeedway. Joining the walkers this year will be Evan Farmer from TLC’s “While You Were Out,” Woody & Jim from The River, Dolewite & Scooby from 101.1, and Katie Chance. All proceeds from the event benefit Autism Speaks, the nation’s leading autism advocacy organization. The 2009 Tennessee Walk is expected to raise over 0,000 and nationwide raises million.
Toys “R” Us, Babies “R” Us and Toys “R” Us Children’s Fund proudly serve as the national sponsor of the Autism Speaks Walk Now for Autism program. Other local sponsors include Verizon Wireless, Cunningham Motors, Pharmacare Compounding Solutions, Aeed Inc, Comdata, Vi-Jon, General Mills and Demos Restaurant.
Autism is a complex brain disorder that inhibits a person’s ability to communicate and develop social relationships, and is often accompanied by extreme behavioral challenges. Another child is diagnosed every 20 minutes.
